The past months have been a whirlwind for the Rethinking Economics movement in the Netherlands. SIREN was launched in June, we were on Dutch national television in August, and since then we have been showered with your support, for which we humbly thank you. It has been a very exciting experience!

Now we have joined forces with the academic network Rethinking Economics NL, and we will continue our campaign for a more diverse, robust, and future-proof economics education at universities in the Netherlands. This way we combine the strengths of students, academics and passionate Rethinkers.

We also have a new look. Our new logo is the result of many brainstorm sessions and revisions. We are very happy with the result, and we thank Thomas Meijer for helping us out with developing it.

Regardless of how far we have come, we are still only at the beginning. We have many plans for 2016. First, we are at the early stages of an in-depth Pluralism Overview of all universities in the Netherlands. What do the economics curricula look like? Which theories do students

Second, we are planning events, many open to the public, where we invite everyone to take part in a new economic discussion. These events will be jargon-free and inviting, and cover questions such as:

  • Who is the 21st century economist?
  • What do central banks actually do?
  • How can  the financial sector be sustainable?
  • and many more...

Third, we will be publishing written pieces regularly, on different outlets, through our Writer's Platform. If you haven't already, check out our blog to see what we have published until now.

Last, but certainly most important, we will work hard to grow the movement in the Netherlands. We invite anyone and everyone with even a passing interest in economics to collaborate with us in shaping a new kind of economic discourse.

But we especially call on the students. Those students with relentless curiosity to find out how the economy really works outside of academia, who want to think about how we can solve the big issues our society is facing. We ask them to join us and step into the wild wide world that is our society, our economy, and the people that inhabit it.

Please feel free to explore our new website. If you want to know more about us, check out the ABOUT RE:NL page, where you can also see our local groups. If you want to know the faces behind the movement, be sure to head on over to our PEOPLE page. The INSPIRATION page is full of material that can wet your economic whistle. Finally, please don't hesitate to CONTACT us. We can't wait to hear from you!

RE:NL members Lorenzo Fränkel and Joris Tieleman were interviewed by Paola van de Velde in De Financiële Telegraaf. Check out the interview below (in Dutch).

SIREN enters new collaboration with Young Critics

We have joined forces with the online youth opinion platform Young Critics, and will be periodically publishing pieces in their Economische Herijking dossier.

Our first pice was written by Lorenzo Fränkel, Maarten Kavelaars and Joris Tieleman. Check it out below (in Dutch).
